Thora Birch

Thora Birch, born March 11 1982 is an American actress. Her film debut was in Purple People Eater (1988), where she won the Young Artist Award for "Best Young Artistress Under Nine Years old". Birch was a big star when she was when she was a child actor with films such as All I Want for Christmas (1991), Patriot Games (92), Hocus Pocus (93), Monkey Trouble (1994), Now and Then (1995) and Alaska (1996). In 1999 she was nominated for an BAFTA nomination. In 2001, she won as Best Actress for Ghost World. Birch was nominated for an Emmy Award in 2003 for her role as the main character in Homeless to Harvard:The Liz Murray Story. Her other films include Dungeons & Dragons (2000), The Hole (2001), Silver City (2004), Dark Corners (2006), Winter of Frozen Dreams (2009) and Petunia (2012).After having time off from acting Birch returned to her acting career in 2016 and has since appeared in numerous independent films. Birch was also a part of Whisperer Mary as well as Gamma on Season 10 of The Walking Dead (2019-2020). Birch was the oldest child born to Jack Birch (and Carol Connors) in Los Angeles. Birch is German-Jewish, Scandinavian and French-Canadian ancestry. [6] The name of her mother, Thora, is derived from the Norse god of lightning and thunder "Thor" which could be her name had she been a boy. Kian Bolt Birch is her younger brother. Both of her parents have been actors in adult-oriented films and starred in Deep Throat. They were reluctant to encourage Thora because of their experiences in the industry of entertainment. But, an infantsitter saw Thora imitating commercials and got them to show Thora's photo to agents. The first time she got noticed was at age four after her babysitter brought her to auditions for an Quaker Oats commercial.
