Rashida Jones

Rashida Jones was born in Los Angeles, California to Quincy Jones, a media mogul and producer, and Peggy Lipton, Rashida is the younger sister of actress Peggy Lipton and Quincy Jones. Her older sister is Kidada Jones, as well as five half-siblings from the relationships of her father's previous relationships. Her father is African American and her mother Ashkenazi Jewish (a descendant emigrants of Russia as well as Latvia). Rashida was born into Reform Judaism. She was raised in Bel Air Los Angeles, California. Jones said that her mixed-race parentage was not recognized in the society of the 1970s. Jones made her professional acting debut on The Last Don, a 1997 mini-series based on the novel by Mario Puzo. Rashida was also an Harvard University graduate in 1997. The school she attended was the Buckley School in Sherman Oaks, California. Awarded Most Likely To Succeed. Her name is Arabic (O+-O'UO-O(c)) meaning "Major adult, mature or wise". She sang in a Tupac Shakur tribute tune, composed by Kidada Jones who is her sister. Kidada and Rashida were produced by Quincy Jones III, the brother of Quincy Jones III. Quincy Jones III was present at the beginning of the song and recited the lines from the poem by Shakur "Starry Night." The title of the song was inspired by the poem. The father of Rashida, who is African-American, has a smaller amount of English, Scottish and Welsh roots (some relatives of Rashida's African relatives are from the Tikar people from Cameroon). Rashida is Ashkenazi Jewish, of Russian Jewish and Latvian Jewish descent. Her paternal grandparents were from South Carolina and Mississippi, respectively. Her maternal grandfather was born to New Yorkers while her maternal grandmother was of Eastern European Jewish heritage. As of the end of 2009, she has appeared in three characters that go by the name "Karen" in cult classic TV comedies (Freaks and Geeks (1999), Stella (2005) and The Office (2005)).
