Padma Lakshmi Bio
Padma Parvati Lakshmi, a daughter of Padma Parvati Lakshmi, was born in Chennai, India, on September 1st 1970. Lakshmi's parents divorced when she was 2 years old. Her mother emigrated to America to escape Indian stigma. Lakshmi lived for two years with her grandparents, in Chennai, before she came to the United States. She has a younger half-brother from her father's side and a younger sister. Both her parents later divorced. Lakshmi, who shares her last name with the Hindu goddess of prosperity and wealth, grew up first in New York and then in Los Angeles with her mother and stepfather. Her family visited her in India several times a year, and then returned for several months. Padma Lakshmi became interested in acting in 1999. She appeared in "Figlio of Sandokan", an Italian Pirate film. Next she was cast in "Caraibi" (Pirates: Blood Brothers) that is a drama about 17th-century pirates.
